K-Secure VPN Release Notes

Version 3.0.4 (June 2011)

  • Bug Fixed: Formatting strings for several event types (34 - 37) contain extra characters (u) in History page.
  • Bug Fixed: Server assigned virtual IP is not honored on client machines. When a client is assigned a virtual IP, say 1.2.3.4, by the server, on the client machine, connections to 1.2.3.4 will never succeed (K-Secure VPN Client).

Version 3.0.3 (May 2011)

  • New Feature: Added Renumber function to Groups, Rules and Users pages (K-Secure VPN Server).
  • New Feature: K-Secure VPN Client now checks for incompatible components running in the system before the service is started. A warning is issued if any incompatible component is found. This behavior can be disabled from General Options.
  • Improvement: Fixed multiple user experience issues including re-organization of context menu and tray icon menu, addition of service status indicators on the Client Status and Server Status buttons, etc.
  • Improvement: A new section, Extending Your VPN with a Proxy Agent is added to the Quick Start Tutorial (K-Secure VPN Server).
  • Bug Fixed: In Groups, Rules and Users pages, if multiple items are selected, a right-click on those items triggers a pop-up menu containing un-initialized menu items (K-Secure VPN Server).

Version 3.0.2 (April 2011)

  • Improvement: A much faster compression and encryption engine has been put into K-Secure VPN. As a result traffic throughput in both K-Secure VPN Server and K-Secure VPN Client are more than 300% faster than in previous releases.
  • New Feature: Clients in K-Secure VPN can now reach a wider network with the help from a Proxy Agent, a designated K-Secure VPN Client that makes connections on the behalf of other clients. Proxy Agent provides connectivity between networks that are otherwise inaccessible to each other.
  • Bug Fixed: K-Secure VPN Server fails to start if the Host Name not properly configured in Server Options.

Version 3.0.1 (March 2011)

  • Important: A change in the communication protocol between the server and the client is implemented in this release. As a result, it is required all clients to be upgraded to version 3 in order for them to connect to a version 3 server.
  • New Feature: K-Secure VPN Server can optionally assign a Virtual IP Address to each client connected to it. It is possible to configure the Virtual IP Address assignment scheme through either the Virtual Network Options (for sequential IP assignments) or through the IP Assignments page (for fixed IP assignments);
  • New Feature: K-Secure VPN Client now reports the Virtual IP assigned to it in the Servers page;
  • New Feature: Both K-Secure VPN Server and K-Secure VPN Client report the Virtual IP and MAC address of each peer in the Peers page;
  • New Feature: It is now possible to disconnect any client in the Peers page in K-Secure VPN Server;
  • New Feature: K-Secure VPN Server can optionally search for rules in top-down order (General Options -> Search rules in top-down order);
  • Bug Fixed: On Windows 2003, if K-Secure VPN Server is set to start automatically with Windows, the system will eventually display a message box complaining "The K-Secure VPN Server service hung on starting." This happened for K-Secure VPN Client as well;
  • Bug Fixed: When a large file is being downloaded, it is virtually impossible to browse the Internet with any web browser;
